why not just imagine a single 1 dimension passing through all the infinitesimally small "units" of 3d space?

then to 5 dimensions, just make the line a plane, etc.

when you get into 7 dimensional space it gets more difficult, although you could go by the same general pattern. and speaking of patterns... 7?!?!
