: But let me say this. I'm left as unimpressed by our
: species' sentience as I am by our species' attempts at
: defining it. That doesn't mean we aren't special. And
: it doesn't mean our cousins and flippered friends are
: close to us intellectually, as much as some of us
: ::pokes SD: would like to create the concept of the
: BIG HAPPY WORLD OF WILDLIFE in the image of Disney's
: Bambi (minus the hunting scene).

Y'know, one of the most interesting things in humans is their paradoxical pride at ebign sentient. We take pride at our status as the only things that are self aware/superior/cogniscent/whatever we believe puts us above other animals, yet we're so lonely on tope that we're constantly trying to either find something else that's like us intelligence-wise (hence koko and those wierd alien watchers) or try to eradicate everything in a fit of superiority.

Bleh :P
