Why would dwarfs worship spiders? Dwarfs don't seem like the type to worship unintelligent arachnids they found crawling around in a cave somewhere and then attack them on sight. I always thought of them as good, Wyrd worshipping folk. Perhaps the smiths of muirthemne were a subspecies of dwarfs, who lived in a different section of the mountains closer to spider territory and in order to placate these beings whoch could easily destroy them they began to offer sacrifices and eventually began to revere them as gods. The thought occured to me now that the atrocity could have been that they kidnapped and killed citizens of the empire to sacrifice to their pet spiders. But why would connacht have allowed these murders to go on for so long? Maybe he permitted it as long as they were building him a magic artifact for him to use against the dark. Maybe he was even supplying them with prisoners of war to go to the spiders and when the war ended they started taking innocent people. It also seems to me that the SoM would have to be magic users. Most dwarf inventions like the balloon and the parachute work on actual scientific principals, which the tain does not. Maybe they were a race of long ostracized dwarfs who began to practice the arts of sorcery long ago and they were the other group of dwarves I mentioned earlier. Okay, kids! Lets hear a counter theory!
