Uh.. if they were looking for closure.. having the head explode is not the way to do it, it makes things seem fishy. Think about it this way, if Balor's head had no exploded then the Leveller soul trapped in it would have simply fallen for eternity in the Great Devoid, The Leveller probably self-destructed himself just so that he could be reborn in the next age.
