: What if Balor wasn't the leveller?
: Some things point to this...like a comment I saw
: somewhere that said Balor appeared before the end of
: the Wolf age, and the fact that Alric seemingly
: screwed over the cycle. MAYBE one of the fallen was
: the leveller, or the leveller came and went...
Well, several things point against this.
1) Both Balor's appearance at the beginning of the Great War and his impending death (Pools of Iron or River of Blood opening narration) were heralded by the comet which had indicated the rise and fall of the previous levelers.
2) Balor appeared at the right time to be the leveler
3) There was no comet when Soulblighter rose to power and none when he fell.
4) The cycle would be even more messed up if one of the other fallen lords were the leveler.
5) Balor/Connacht is and was the most powerful person, both before he disappeared into the Untamed Lands and after he returned as Balor. It wouldn't make much sense for the most powerful person around NOT to become the leveler; even Alric had to resort to trickery and some of the most powerful artifacts in existance to overthrow him.
: Well, load up dem flak cannons and waste me, people!
I prefer using a rocket launcher:P
Seriously though, I encourage anyone with serious ideas, no matter how far-fetched, to bring them up. No more "The Big D Debate" ::COUGH COUGH:: threads though; we've talked that one to death.
