Yes, Ravanna is Shiver's true name, Shiver being a name given to Ravanna by Balor, after he brought her spirit (post-mortem) into "corporeal form" with a magic mirror. As for using her name to defeat her, I don't think so. All of the principal characters in TFL and SB use each other's real names, but they don't seem to melt or turn to stone when those names are said. They don't even flinch. :)
I've read all the *sanctioned* literature there is, and I don't really understand why this Ravanna-Shiver controversy exists. If someone could synopsize it in a couple of sentences that would be great. Nothing from GURPs, please. :)
We *know* relatively little about her, except that she had something to do with the sixth Fallen Lord's head getting chopped off and that she got her ass kicked by the Deceiver. The rest of this debate seems to have grown out of deduction, rather than cold, hard evidence.

PS I'm just a n00b here too :)
: I'm just a newb here, but... i thought Ravanna was just
: Shiver's true name. You know how in a lot fantasy
: novels, saying a magician's true name helps you to
: defeat them? That would make sense in that scene. On
: the other hand, i don't remember seeing anything like
: that elsewhere in the Myth games.
