Yeah, I had a theory like that. See my other post about the four-part cycle with A and B spirits.
My theory about the broken cycle was that it wasn't BD-AL-AD-BL looping over and over again, but BD-AL-AD-BL-AL-BD-BL-AD looping.
So the First Era was a B-spirit Dark age.
The Age of Reason was an A-spirit Light age.
The Wind Age was an A-spirit Dark age.
The Wolf Age was a B-spirit Light age.
And the New Age should be an A-spirit Light Age... and whadda ya know, so far it is!
The problems with this theory are:
(A)The Comet and Tharsis were fifty years late. This indicates a break to me, unless they're just not very accurate or whatever. And
(B)It still may be a Dark Age. The secrets of Undeath are widely known now, and the Myrkridia are loose on the lands again, though in limited capacity. In addition there are also new threats like the Fetch. So if Alric dies and the Dark takes over, it may be an BD cycle anyway.
