In Response To: Current State of the Cycle (Milk Man)

: I was wondering.. is the cycle broken or not? There is
: much evidence supporting multiple theories which back
: both options. Here are the ones I've heard or come up
: with. Personally I believe the cycle has not been
: broken, and that if Soulblighter could become the
: Leveller, than there may be other-potential levellers
: out there (see B-3).

: A- The Cycle Is Broken

: 1- Connacht succeeded in his quest to end the cycle, he
: hid enough artifacts to make it so that when he
: returned as the Leveller he did not have enough power
: to overthrow the light.

: 2- Alric was just so adept and brilliant that he managed
: to defeat even fate and by triumphing over Balor
: against all odds, he ended the cycle.

: 3- Balor's death was a major setback for the cycle, but
: Soulblighter was meant to fill his shoes. The epilogue
: said that Soulblighter would have become the Leveller
: had he succeeded, and yet he failed thus eliminating
: the Cycle's last chance of a comeback and breaking it
: forever.

: 4- The cycle was not meant to last forever and it has
: come to a natural end.

: 5- One of the gods intervened to end the cycle

: B- The Cycle is not broken

: 1- Perhaps the artifacts are, as Connacht seemed to have
: suspected, the real key to the Leveller's power and
: his destruction of them managed to delay the cycle.
: But fate can only be halted for so long, either new
: artifacts will be forged or old ones will be found.

: 2- The cycle is not meant to be broken. Balor's explosion
: was no coincidence, something is afoot. Perhaps we
: have not seen the last of Balor.

: 3- The epilogue said that had Soulblighter been
: successful he would have become the Leveller. This
: could mean that there are other potential Levellers
: out there and perhaps they'll keep comming untill the
: dark prevails and one of them becomes the Leveller.

: 4- The cycle was not meant to end, this is just a minor
: hiccup, a leap year if you will. The cycle will return
: to normal.

: 5- Some higher power intervened in the cycle, but it's
: influence can only last so long. This break will last
: only as long as that power interferes.

For some reason I find this chart really cool. Another possibility is that this IS a Dark age at it's dawn. There's not really evidence to support this, but you can still make stuff up which fits with what we know: maybe some lieutenant of Balor or Soulblighter fled after their masters defeat, and now is teaching anyone how to create undead so he can afford a mug of grog, until pretty soon there are evil overlords coming out from everywhere with their own private armies or undead. Or maybe those Fallen Lords we never saw or heard anything about are still off somewhere, gathering strength, learning from Soulblighter's errors.

Ever the optimist, however I believe in A1 or A4
