Well, now. I didn't think of that. It's possible to explain Soulblighter's actions as simple callousness--Shiver *might* survive, and even if she and her army both perish, it's worth it to get rid of so much of the Light force--and that's how I always thought about it. But it does make more sense if Soulblighter had figured out her ruse beforehand and decided to get rid of her.
In fact...
The Deceiver and Soulblighter spent quite a bit of time in close proximity just before "The Dam," when Myrdred was imprisoned in Damas' camp. If Myrdred already knew Shiver was a poser, he could have informed Soulblighter either directly or through Phelot, knowing that Damas would then move against her. Alternately, if *Soulblighter* had already figured it out, Myrdred might have overheard it in some fashion and thus learned about it.
