Well, GURPS does suggest that it's death. Immediately after mentioning the "eternal sleep," it goes on to say the bit about "it could be that Shiver was on her second and third lives..." So apparently it was as much a death as was the Deceiver's 60-year vacation in a winter wonderland. Although he didn't wake up in two bodies. :-)
