Perhaps the elemtal creature was simply the hand itself and no humaniod like creature that we most commonly associate with an elemental. Otherwise, you'd think it would put up a bit of a struggle when the light came to free the deciever or it could be acting like a golem and have no actual intelligence and follows its commander's orders word for word. Maybe Soulblighter never told it to "kill anything that tries to put the last crystal in its place"
