The Asylum was around long before GURPS Myth, or Chimera, or even Myth II. I remember when Myth II was released and it ruined a lot of our theories here.
As for Gene Seabolt, he doesn't have to be very "into" Myth to have written GURPS Myth. He saw a good story universe that Bungie had written and thought it would make a good place to role-play; hence GURPS. Then he got together with Bungie and stole all their secrets to flesh out the universe, pulled a few loose ends out of his ass and voila! GURPS Myth.
