To play devil's advocate for a sec, we do know that Gene Seabolt never beat the "Shiver" level; he just used the shift-plus cheat to skip past when he was halfway through. This would explain why he didn't realize that the Deceiver died at the end of it. However, I think the Bungie editors and playtesters of GURPS would have corrected him if the Deceiver had actually died.
