Shiver did not "die" per se in Myth TFL. All of the other fallen lords were actually killed ('cepting the deciever). Shiver's soul was ripped out by Rabican when he countered her silent dream. It drifted around for a while, then Soulblighter got his hands on Trasmist's Mirror, an artifact that puts souls into dead bodies, found a sutable corpse and "ressurected" her.
SB himself was so hard to kill because he turned into crows. That's why the light was unable to catch him 'till the Deciever zapped one of 'em.

I would guess that the Forest Giants are an elder race. They seem to be more elemental than mortal. The Myth comic does not mention a lot of things, it's only purpose is to explain Red Seal. The narrator of the comic even expresses his amazement at the fact that Krids aren't mentioned by the Trow. The Oghers were never a very powerful race. They just had a lot of numbers.
The reason the FG probably survived is because they live in the Forest Heart and are loathe to leave it.

This is a subject of debate. The second shade in "The Watcher" level is called Mazzarin. He has half life and no energon cubes. He was not originally meant to be there since the first shade was supposed to teleport away before getting killed (and sometimes still does?).
