It's basically fan fiction. It doesn't change the official story any more than all those Kirk/Spock stories on the Usenet are canon Star Trek. Problems only occur when people try to treat 3rd party stuff as if it were canon, such as that group of Marathonners that tried to demand that Tempus Irae be made the official Marathon 4 and Hamish start covering it. So long as we keep our feet on the ground, we'll be okay.
