you might notice, if you extract them both, is that the final corner of shiver and part of the map for a murder of crows match up pretty much exactly, aside from being different colours.
what this suggests to me is that the champions and the deciever are approaching soulblighter's camp which we escaped from a few levels ago. the spiral pattern is where the deciever was held, and it looks like various holding spells seem to create that pattern on the ground, even if in one case it's caused by a great big hand sticking out of the ground...
