Also, in the scripting one of the actions is named "pick up alric on camera". Perhaps alric was meant to be involved in the level in some way? Maybe instead of being trapped by the deceiver's attack, Shiver was going to retreat to the previously mentioned fort, only to be ambushed by Alric from behind. Or maybe not. Who knows?
