I believe that the b'Y'laggo was insipred by Kina from the (you guessed it) black company books. Kina was originaly created by the gods of good to battle the gods of evil. However she was so terrible that she battled both. Pretty much shes the most evil, horrible, powerful of the gods. However, the other gods disgusted and frightened by here vile might imprisonned her. Kina's followers called "Stranglers" believe that by killing enough people (by strangling them with rumels) they will eventually bring on the Year of the Sculls and free thier godess. However, while Kina is trapped she has little power. She is powerful enough (and becomes more powerful as more people are killed, much like the b'Y'laggo) to reach into the dream and spirit worlds, and she can subtly manipulate some minor events in the spirit world. Prehaps the b'Y'laggo was imprisoned by the other Myth Gods, and the bre'Unor believe that by killing enough people in thier ritualistic fasion, they will be able to free it.
