Well, just played it, and I now have a nice little film of the Wights coming in from the edge of the map, walking up to the Knot and exploding. Where should I send it? I can just email it to the Story Page if you want, or to the b.org HL server...
: True. But perhaps we were never meant to see it anyway.
: Only hear the explosion and wonder what caused it.
If we weren't meant to see it, my guess is it wasn't meant to happen. :-)
: My gut feeling is that this was dropped at some stage. It
: would have helped alot if someone had said "What
: the hell was that?" after the explosion and the
: J-man informing us the Knot has been destroyed and
: we'll have to escape on foot. So explaining the next
: level.
True...but a Wight's walking up and destroying the Knot is a lot less surprising than a Wight teleporting in via a hitherto-unused magical mechanism, and therefore less worthy of comment.
: One of the reasons why it may have been dropped in that
: the Wights don't always destroy a Knot pylon when they
: explode.
How about when six of them explode? :-) They would have destroyed the pylon even if they were evenly scattered about the Knot.
: Those Wights are special. They don't attack Light forces.
: Again that makes me think this isn't your standard
: scripted event.
The Ghols on Redemption don't attack Light forces--until later, anyway. Nor do the Ghols and Wights on the Wall. And Wights, by their nature, don't have the luxury of attacking the Light afterwards. :-)
: When does this happen? Once they are in the Knot they
: blow it.
Nope--they approach the Knot from *outside* and blow it once they're nearby. Which sometimes puts them in a half-ring around the outside of it, but sometimes puts them in a big mass wholly outside of the Knot. As in my film.
: No need to send in extra troops the Watcher he had us
: trapped which he did until we found out about the
: secret tunnel. Which... surprise... surprise... so did
: Soulblighter! :-)
This is so.
: Well I'm trying to reconcile gameplay with the story and
: not invent a special Dark unit to explain events.
They're not special! They're just Wights who don't enter the map until later.
