In Response To: Re: Stuff & a theory mb (Demosthenes)

: perhaps they built the rhianon knot around the time that
: Connacht melted the trow cities? mb they were used to
: ferry equipment and food and weapons and stuff for the
: troops, as i'm assuming Connacht didnt just go up
: there all by his lonesome self.

: but if that was the reason, and it was that easy to make
: knots, then you'd expect knots to be at every little
: village and town as well, so i guess my theory has a
: flaw:)

: i dont think the knots look very Trowish. color,
: architectural shape, not to mention the physical size
: of the things don't look like they were built with tr0
: in mind.

: omg, wild theoreez rool.

: but weren't the callieach about the same physical size as
: trow? it seems to me that whoever made the knots were
: more or less human sized.

: mb most of em didnt. there were probably knots all over
: the place way back in pre-wyrd time, the ones in
: existance today might just be the lucky remnant that
: survived wyrds creation, and making the cloudspine and
: all that.

Theory: Gods cannot manifest themselves in this world without the belief, worship, and, in some cases, massed sacrifice of a very large number of worshippers (except for the Leveller, who uses avatars, the destruction of which greatly drain his power, hence the 1000 year delay). Therefore, having created the world, it is impossible for a god to personally create species on the world. World knots, however, allow creatures to be transported from either other worlds or from whatever realm the gods inhabit. The creation of one end of a World Knot perhaps causes the opposite end to rise from the ground at the position that the creator imagines (though this part of the theory is very shaky). In later ages, powerful mages worked out how to utilise the surviving Knots for limited purposes, transporting creatures relatively short distances across the world.

One other thing- is possession of one Knot necessary to transport creatures to its opposite end? Homecoming speaks of "in a few moments Rabican himself is going to send a few of us through a World Knot to Covenant, to bring back the Codex", but when the Deciever tries to attack you in the rear, and at Rhi'Anon, there is no suggestion of an entry Knot. My guess has been that a mage of the required power can transport creatures a relatively short distance to a world knot the symbol of which the user can picture in his mind, but even a non-wizard entering a knot can use it to travel a relatively short distance, as long as one of them has a firm idea of where they're going, and can picture it in their minds. If the mental picture is flawed, limbo! If my theory is less crazy than it sounds, then a mage of the required ablitily standing on or near a World Knot would be able to transport creatures through it to its other, extraplanar, end, if that was what he had in mind. A "relatively short distance" might be about 10,000 miles, ie. realtively short compared to interplanar travel.

Sounds crazy? Yup.
