: If Balor was so furious by the battle standard of the
: mykridia then why would he not be the same with the
: tain? The tain is the symbol of where the mykridia
: are, dead or alive. Balor obviously hated everything
: there is to do with mykridia and the tain is one of
: the largest symbols. This makes me believe that, as I
: said earlier, Soulblighter is not the type that likes
: following orders. He probably has some disagreements
: with Balor's plans, but does his plans without giving
: Balor any hint of his discontent. If Damas was one of
: Connachts friends and they both fought mykridia then
: it seems like slaping Connacht and Balor in the face
: when Soulblighter summoned mykridia. Why wouldn't
: Soulblighter have the same intense hatred? Again,
: Soulblighter seems like he is loyal when he has to,
: but treacherous when he can get away with it.
I think I have a solution to this. As we know, the Codex speaks of a man (The Summoner) who is not yet born, at the time of the Great War. Soulblighter, and the rest of the Fallen Lords, never had access to the Total Codex. Nevertheless, Soulblighter knew that the Summoner was out there, and went looking for him. Somehow, there must have been a way for him to know that the Summoner existed, and what he could do.
Perhaps Balor knew of the Summoner as well, or at least that he would someday gain the power to resurrect the Myrkridia. And Balor wouldn't like that very much, I imagine. Therefore, I think he sent Soulblighter, a fellow Myrkridia-hater, to fetch the Tain (since neither of them knew where it was) and bring it back, so that when the Summoner reared his head, he would have no Myrkridia to resurrect. Soulblighter figured he'd do Balor a favor and get rid of the Legion at the same time, but we know how that turned out.
When Soulblighter returned, it occurred to him that he REALLY needed something powerful to help him overcome the Light. Since both Damas and Soulblighter are unorthodox guys when it comes to their planning, he figured "Hey, why not use the Krids". As much as he hated them, it would be far better to use them than fight them, especially since the Summoner would end up doing it anyway at that point.
I think this fills out the personality we've established for Soulblighter; obedient, but unorthodox and willing to bend the rules to suit his needs.
