Maybe ghols aren't as "young" as they seem. They could have been ridiculously primitive for a long time, and only recently gained respect as intelligent critters. As was stated in another post, "monkey see, monkey do". The ghols, in a more primitive state, could have easily been trained to parrot the praises of the dark gods, without necessarily even knowing what they were doing (though I'll bet they did).
And another thing...in "Out of the Barrier", at the beginning of the level someone says "uh oh..." in a tiny, gutteral voice. Is that just the dwarf, or is it the ghol's reaction to Alric?
