It's stated in the TFL comic and GURPS, though, that all the elder races eventually challenged the Trow (or did something the Trow interpreted that way) and got crushed. So the Ghols are probably as young as Humans and Dwarves, and the Trow simply warned (back in the Axe Age) all the younger races not to get uppity while they went about their business.
