: Does anyone have a history of the Berserks? I was
: thinking about how much I actually know about them. It
: says in Myth that they live in the North Lands, but
: which ones? Plus, in Myth2 it says returning home
: after the defeat of Balor the men of the North found
: their villages and farms virtually untouched by the
: dark...etc How could this be? Berserks don't have
: archers, right? What would they do if lots of Soulless
: attacked from a high hill? Anyway, if anyone has any
: in depth history on the Berserks if you could post it
: please? I'm making a map that needs some back ground.
: Thanks.
One rather big assumption we've been making is that Berserkers are the only unit that the clans of the North use. Sure, Berserks are probably the majority unit, but that doesn't stop them from having other ones. Look at the Norse, for instance. Although we know that only the Fir'Bolg used bows until Myth2, I'd reckon that some Northmen weh were poor with a sword or especially good shots might use slings instead to support their sword swinging kinsmen. They would probably not, however, have sent such troops to support their allies, as a bow has a longer range than a sling, and the Fir'Bolg were undisputed masters of missile combat. You send troops that will compliment what your allies have, not do what they do, only worse than they do. Slingers would also provide a defence against Soulless. They probably also have Huscarls and Bondsmen (basically warriors), but we haven't seen any of them in the game.
Probably all the most powerful clans are allied to the Bruig empire, but they would probably turn a blind eye to any lesser clans or independent warlords who wanted to raid the "civilised" lands. I wouldn't have thought that the Berserks were allied to the Fir'Bolg, as the Berserks would consider the sniping and sharpshooting that the Fir'Bolg favour to be the lowest and most despicable form of warfare- a real man charges in and hacks his enemy to bits with a huge sword! Nevertheless, the Fir'Bolg would have little to gain from invading the bleak homeland of the Berserks, and trying to fight the Fir'Bolg on their home terrain would be tantamount to suicide, so frosty relationships and grudging respect would be more likely than outright warfare.
