Why do you think that the TFL narrator was human? He certainly wasn't a dwarf (see the text in Sons of Myrgard and ''delerious children'' at Devil's Overlook) but (although I personally do not agree with this argument) he could have been a Fir'Bolg, as archers feature in all the levels that he specifically says he took part in. There's also an unused picture of some kind of warrior, probably high ranking, conglatulating an archer after you ecape with the Total Codex.
As for the Fir'Bolg not caring much about the other races, I guess they reckoned that if they did not help the humans, even their well hidden villages in the Ermine would eventually fall before Balor's onslaught. They certainly cared enough to sacrifice the lives of hundreds of their people before Balor's fortress.
