He might not necessarily be a vampire, but he is almost certainly a lot more cunning than we give him credit for. Would you gamble with your immortality against Alric unless you had some kind of contingency plan? I certainly wouldn't!
It's a rather suspicious theory, I know, but Soulblighter is known for his habits of slaughtering whole towns, and where there are no witnesses, noone will be able to see the Thrall draining the bodies of the dead to satisft their master's thirst. Seriously, though, Soulblighter probably isn't a vampire, but, as Forrest says, there's room for a sequel (although personally, I think that if he does turn up again, it should be in a relatively minor role).
