It never says so in release material, but Miguel "Freewill" Chavez, self-proclaimed Bungie's #1 Fan, asked about the new scar Soulblighter aquired on his chest between TFL and M2, in one of his famous MacWorld investigations (the one right before M2's release, IIRC). The Bungie employee asked responded that he had cut out his heart and hidden it away in his temple so that he couldn't be killed unless someone tracked down his hidden temple in the Untamed Lands. I've looked, but unfortunately I've been unable to find the transcript of that inerview. :-(
Anyway, leaves room for a sequel. :-)
