I've seen this happen multiple times, and I believe it's related to the dorf not firing properly all of the time. (if you've never seen it, a dorf sometimes will do everything but fire). The solution to the dorf problem is simply to hit the spacebar (or whatever stop is for you), then continue. You may want to try doing that with alric.
The problem (for dorfs) happens when you stop or otherwise tell a dorf to do something after its firing sequence has started but before it finishes. Pressing stop "resets" the dorf, allowing it to continue normally. I'm not sure if this is all applicable to Alric, but you should try it.
Another way to reduce this problem is to get as much experience for Alric as possible. He attacks faster, more powerfully (though not by much), and seems to run into the bug less. Any of this help?
