The fire arrows aren't neccesary, they're just the standard tactic I've seen used. Keeps Alric from taking a few hit points walking through the fire - and the hints say to lure Soulblighter out, too, so that's Bungie's intended tactic.
: Just heal Alric, and send him in alone to fight
: Soulblighter. That's it. He wins every time.
SHOULD win every time. You're telling me you've never seen Alric go all stupid-like and just stand there? (And yes, I'm positive it wasn't Mahir - he's done it in the earlier battles against big hoards of Myrkridia too, before the Mahir show up).
