I bet the whole thousand years of darkness business is really thousand years to END darkness. I may be wrong, but I don't think any Leveler has actaully ever ruled and for that matter, ever wanted to rule. "Seeks not to conquer, but to destroy" said the narrator. SO Connacht killed Moagim before he was able to wipe out humanity, but it took a long time to deal with the mykridia and whatever else. And so people lived and there were cities that may have stayed untouched, but there was always battles and skirmishes and people lived in constant fear untill Connacht finally dealed with them all. Considering also the fact that he was running around destroying and hiding artifacts suggest a long time too.
