: he captured him, look at it from his point of view- if
: you'd just captured a millenia old rival of yours, and
: a traitor as well, you might want to gloat for a bit,
: wouldn't you? Admittedly not the wisest thing to do
: when there's a reasonable force of Legionairres and a
: shade of questionable loyalty nearby, but hey, all the
: worst villains gloat.
It's possible that doing so would have severely depleted him magically. He's not the greatest sorceror to begin with, you know. He could have been planning on waiting until he killed Alric, and then getting the Deceiver when he was sure no one could kill him in his weak state.
