Not so - definitely a dispersal dream. When I last played
it, the myrmidons started going "pop" before the level ended.

Not to say he couldn't have teleported away anyway. In fact, its pretty certain that he did. Pity he lost this ability in Myth 2. It would have made the Forge level much less tedious ;)
