In Response To: Myth III: the units so far (Milk Man)

Well, I think the Light would need a juggernaut unit too. The following is impossible with the current engine, but...

Dwarven Juggernaut
These things would cost maybe 24 - 36 points... The basic idea is that they are absolutely unstoppable in a melee but quite vulnerable to ranged units.

It would be some sort of giant animated model that functions as a tool used by the three dwarves that control it. Two dwarves are in the "cockpit" pedaling. The cockpit is a caged-in seated area. This is how the machine moves. A third is behind them, in the open - he can throw molotovs.

On the front of the Juggernaut is a giant screw or spiked rotating wheel that moves whenever the machine moves. Nothing can stand up to this. There are serrated rotating disks all around the machine that kill anything they touch, almost instantly. Even a Trow would be reduced to dust in three seconds if he directly attacked the Juggernaut. Any melee army, no matter what the size, gets decimated by a Juggernaut.

The machine itself is nearly indestructable. If two juggernauts go up against each other and the rear gunner has been killed, they'll just grind away at each other for a minute or so and then one or both will explode spectacularly - The explosion of one is enough to kill the crew of the other.

So, an invincible indestructable thing? no! It has weaknesses. First of all, it is extremely slow. Thrall would be able to outrun it. Its speed may not matter if it's guarding the hill tho =)

Second, while the machine is indestructable, the crew is not. If the rear gunner is killed, no more molotovs can be thrown from the machine. If one of the pedallers is killed, the machine moves at a crawl - one third of its already slow speed. if both pedallers are killed, the Machine is stationary. If all three die, the Machine explodes. The death sequence of the last crew member could include him hitting a big red button (to prevent it from falling into the hands of the enemy =)

The cage that surrounds the cockpit deflects 50% of archer arrows. Also, if a molotov hits the cage, it explodes on the bars, so the pedellers only take about a third of the damage. Lightning is conducted by the bars away from the pedellers, so a fetch blast damages them only slightly more than an arrow. HOWEVER, unprotected, a Juggernaut is meat for soulless or archers, who will eventually kill it.

Any comments? Yeah its unbalanced, but a machine can't be everywhere at once, so its not as if losing all your archers dooms you (unless its a LMOTH game - then you're screwed =)

Juggernauts would generally fight each other with the rear gunner - trying to destroy enemy crew members.

There would be problems for Lmoth games though. Perhaps the Machine's terrain passability is also limited - it can't get to the kill in most games, either because it cant cross water or it cant get up steep ground.
