: Uh, most CTRL's like that are simply called something
: like "Regain control of Deceiver," or
: "Give player control" or something. The fact
: that extra information was included, a rare practise
: in itself, and that this information, written by a
: Bungie mythmaker, specifically says that the Deceiver
: is dead, should mean something.

The "chattiness" of scripting varies considerably from level to level, I presume as a function of who the author was. Both "Down a Broken Path" and "The Deceiver," for instance, have a lot of side info in the scripting. And "Shiver," in particular, has this kind of stuff non-stop. "Phelot's Betrayal;" "Are they sneaking around you, Shiver?"; "OK guys, play rough." This particular CTRL name isn't anything special.

I'd also note that in this level, as in others, the scripting appears to have been partially completed before the story was down solid. For example, you'll notice that one of the camera motions to track Myrdred is called "Pick up Alric on camera," indicating (I suppose) that originally Alric was supposed to be Shiver's executioner.

The most straightforward explanation, though, is that the CTRL name simply means that Myrdred's supposed to look like he's dead, and that for gameplay purposes he is dead--you don't get to use a Deceiver unit on that level again. It doesn't have any bearing on whether that apparent death was faked or not.
