The Myrmidons didn't die. This is hard fact as GURPS, Bungie sanctioned material, say that they didn't.
Also you wonder how Alric could blow up that many Myrmidons with only 2 dispersal dreams? Well, remember how they were charging at him... in a huge circular group, just asking for a well placed destructive "jumping" spell.
We don't know whether Balor's body explodes or not. It's not far fetched to assume that since his head exploded when he was killed that his body would explode as well.
Also Alric didn't have to kill all of the Myridons. The Myrmidons were only bound into Balor's service because they took an oath (perhaps some sort of magical geas) that exchanged immortality for their servitude to him. It's completely understandable that they didn't join with Soulblighter. After all, they really don't like their new state, in fact its an eterenal torment to them. Why join with the former ally of your ultimate betrayer. They would probably rather just be left to thier insane misery. When Balor dies their geas to him is broken and they have free will.
