: Where exactly were the Heron Guard when Muirthemne fell

I always assumed that the Heron Guards were at Muirthemne when it fell, and, when they realised that Balor's horde was too strong, and that the city could not be held, they fled through a sally port (a kind of concealed ''back door''), and were so ashamed of their cowardice that they become journeymen. Ironically, this could be considered cowardly as well, as journeymen have to fight very rarely (I hide mine behind my archers).
