I don't know if anyone has ever heard of a game called Leviathan, but in that, the Dwarves relied heavily on technology, once they were free of Elven laws prohibiting research. Among other things, they had primitive, open topped tanks, multi barelled grenade launchers, gatling muskets, hand held rockets (looking suspiciously lihe fireworks) with either acid, poison gas or high explosive payloads, as well as the suicidal Oathbreaker units, each of whom was fitted with an explosive harness, and sent charging into the enemy. BOOM!! They did have conventional crossbows and axes available as well, but the explosive stuff was far more interesting(and destructive).
