: I always just thought that the invisibility was meant to
: represent their superior stealth...special training
: would teach pathfinders how to move silently, blend in
: with the shadows, etc...so they're basically very

: ingame, so Bungie just made them invisible.
Yeah, I don't think you can plead "superior stealth" when Jari's wandering across an open courtyard avoiding a dozen patrolling brigands. :-)
They seem to specialize in crude telepathic and empathic stuff--no mind control or that sort of thing, but they can sense and transmit feelings and images, and generate an SEP field to become functionally invisible.
Apparently virtually all Dwarves with any magical skill become Pathfinders. This is probably one of the main reasons there are no longer any Dwarven sorcerers or magically-gifted craftsmen building things like the Maul of the Dwarven Kings; they all get drafted.
The Tarnkappen, according to GURPS, sport self-powered Hide spells. I don't know enough about GURPS magic to know exactly what a Hide spell is, but I suspect a wearer of a Tarnkappe becomes *truly* invisible, bending light around himself (whereas a Pathfinder just makes people not notice him.) And of Tarnkappen can be used by people with no magical skillz, which is a plus.
