In Response To: Re: confuzzling Leveler question (Demosthenes)

: i dunno if i agree with that. in the M2 epilogue, it
: says: "Although the hero of every age of light is
: different, every dark age is ushered in by the same
: beast — a transient divinity that seeks only conflict
: — The Leveler."

: to me that suggests that when one of the heros take down
: a Leveler, theyre just normal(if really
: powerful/lucky) humans. but later on, that hero is
: taken over by the "transient divinity" of
: the leveler, until they're killed by the next hero, at
: which time the leveler spirit leaves their current
: body.

But we know that not all Levellers are posessions of former Great Heroes, though all the successfull ones are. Moagim Reborn showed up out of the blue at the same time as Connacht, though you could argue that if he was "Moagim Reborn" he may have retained Moagim's memories somehow and thus could be considered still a posession of Tireces.

And we also know that not all Great Heroes who arise to oppose Levellers live and go on to become Levellers themselves; the poor guy who opposed the original Moagim was once such fellow.

Add to that that each Hero can still be a different person while being a reincarnation of the same spirit. Alric, though a reincarnation of Tireces/Moagim/Reborn, most likely doesn't realize it. (You know, it'd be funny if Alric ran into one of those horses dragging the quarters of his former body around). The Leveller, on the other hand, is a noncorporeal entity who doesn't die, and thus can be said to be the same being inhabiting humans every millenium and going about killing things.

One part of Sili's theory I forgot to mention in my post above about Alric and Balor's chaos/order thing, which ties in here: it seems that all the Leveller does is push the incarnate spirit's natural tendancy over the edge. So Tireces goes completely anarchic and chaotic and releases the Myrkridia on the world, while Connacht decides to turn everybody into rank-and-file undead who can keep perfect order forever. Neither tendancy is completely evil, but the Leveller pushes them to such extremes that they become evil.

You know, I wonder if other powerfull beings are reincarnated like this, and what their tendancies are. Folks like Damas/Soulblighter; did he have a previous incarnation serving Tireces/Moagim? Or maybe he served the Leveller/Hero opposite them, as they seem not to have powerfull lackies hanging around, as an integral part of their, er... uh... (paradigm, sir?) yes, an integral part of their paradigm. And what of the Watcher? He was around in the Wind Age to kill Mazzarin, got imprisoned by Connacht and Myrdred in the Wolf Age, and served Balor in the Sword Age. What's his story?
