In Response To: confuzzling Leveler question (Wenire the Smelly (welly))

: The more I read about the Leveler, the more I get
: confused. How many Leveler's were there (up until
: Balor, the latest)? And what are the names of the ones
: we DEFINETLY know about? That obviously does not
: include pseudo-myth (like GURPS which has numerous
: incorrect facts) and the background story for some joe
: schmo's plugin.

: Especially confusing is "Moagim Reborn". Just
: exactly How Many leveler incarnations did Connacht
: kill?

First off, as someone already said, GURPS is not pseudo-Myth, it is canon material (though the games supercede it in case of contradiction).

As for Levellers, it seems that there is one every thousand years. The first one we ever heard of was at the dawn of the Second Era, the Age of Reason, whose ass Tireces totally whooped. (He was immobilized be sorcery, beheaded and burnt at the stake, and we never even got his name).

Then, a thousand years later at the dawn of the Wind Age, Tireces returned as Moagim, happily set up the destruction of the world by the Myrkridia, killed the Great Hero that had arisen to oppose him, and yet somehow managed to be drawn and quartered on the plains before Illeum anyway

A thousand years after that, Connacht showed up, whooped on the Myrkridia and Trow, and fought a new Leveller called by some "Moagim Reborn". That poor bastart was killed, his body destroyed by fire and buried under the mountains of Kor in the Untamed Lands. A thousand years of light, called the "Wolf Age" or "Age of Light", followed.

Finally, about a hundred years ago or so, Connacht returned as Balor, the Leveller, and quite nearly destroyed the world before getting his head lopped off and thrown into the Great Devoid. Half that the time since his arrival has been dark, and half of it has been light, which is odd since this is supposed to be a completely Dark age.

If you're wondering about "Moagim Reborn", popular theory has it that the Levellers and Heroes are all incarnations of two spirits, labled "A" and "B" by us (for "Alric" and "Balor", their latest incarnations). Tireces/Moagim, Moagim Reborn, and Alric were all the "A" spirit. (GURPS says Alric doesn't like horses because he's a reincarnation of Moagim, who was drawn and quartered; that means that Moagim's former persona, Tireces, was also Alric, and if Moagim Reborn is correctly named, then he was also Alric).

The Leveller Tireces killed, the Hero Moagim killed, and Connacht/Balor were all the "B" spirit. (Connacht/Balor is the same person, and it makes sense that the other two unnamed heroes who found Alric's various incarnations would have been Balor's other incarnations).
