It was the Smiths (well, some interdimensionally talented Dwarves distantly related to the Smiths) who almost freed them in the first place in the first map, helping the Fetch try to get hold to appease the Spider Gods. But then the Spider Gods themselves tried to get out and take over the world and stuff, so they blew thins up and saved the day.
