: Hello, crazy-house!
: I was going to post this to a Myth plugin/scenario news
: forum, but I'm saving that for when my project is
: ready for more public scrutiny.
: I'm making a rather large 15-20 level Myth II scenario.
: I'm trying to give it more of the feel of the good old
: Myth, and I'm bringing back a few old friends, the
: Forest Giants, the Myrmidons, and the fir'Bolg, plus
: I'm implementing the Skrael unit.
: The scenario takes place a millenium after Myth TFL. The
: cycle of light has passed, and now the Leveler has
: once again returned in the form of the greatest hero
: of the previous age. Everyone was hoping that when
: Soulblighter tried to push the cycle it was broken,
: but this was plainly not the case. The Leveler has
: raised up four of the other great warriors/sorcerers
: of the age, and so there are four new Fallen Lords.
: The reason that all you crazy Myth addicts are hearing of
: this before anyone else is because I want to hear your
: suggestions for a story for the scenario to follow.
: Right now I have enough to put together something like
: Myth II, because the plot is spread kinda thin. I
: really want to enrich it a bit, and make this
: something good, rather than something just mediocre
: like Myth II. I need suggestions for surprising
: twists, old forgotten tactics and secrets that see the
: light again, and for new places in the Myth world to
: travel to.
: Remember, if you mention this on any other forum, the
: only response you'll get for awhile is
: "What?". It's nowhere near ready for the
: public eye yet.
: Joyeuse
Well, here's my 2 cents, which I picked up from the deepest bowels of my couch: The thing that makes the Bungie storylines so good, and what they all have in common, is that there is an extremely desperate battle between the good guys (whoever they may be) and the bad guys. The stakes are high, and the team that eventually wins is usually the underdog.
For example (and all of you know this): In the Marathon trilogy there was the Marine and Durandal vs. an overwhelming force of Phfor. The fights were furious, intense, and met with many defeats for the good guys (Marine & Durandal). But in the end, we still won.
In Myth TFL, there were the Fallen lords who had kept the forces of light from winning any battles until the seige of Madrigal. They killed 8+ of The Nine, which were the most powerful sorcerers that light had to offer, and they destroyed the most powerful empire in all the land. It took a total of 18 years to defeat them, and it was only because of luck. The forces of light were completely crippled because of those battles, and when Balor was finally defeated all that remained of the Legion was Alric. One man out of 100,000(?) survived the confrontation.
Oops, I'm rambling. Basically my point is this: It's cool to bring the losing side back from certain defeat and smash the enemy in the nose. It seems like it would be good if you included a more extreme version of that in your set of maps. Maybe something like one of the Legions (or whatever there is after all that time) happens to be off chasing down one of the new fallen (or whatever there is...) and returns to their home to find it completely destroyed. They could be all that is left of the resistence against the Leveler, and take up the responsibility. The possibilities are endless.
Another thing that would be good is if you could delve deeper into the avatara. The avatara are one of the very interesting aspects of myth. We never really find out what any of them are like except for Alric and Myrdred. We also never find out what it takes to become one, how they work together, and many other things.
Finally, I will get to my last point. HOORAY FOR YOU!!! I'm glad someone will make a plugin that is heavy with storyline. When I heard that CoD was canceled, I felt as if an essential part of Myth was gone. Creation was going to go into the first 17 years of the war against the Dark, and make the storyline complete. But they didn't. :(
So best of luck to you with your plugin. I'll be looking forward to it (I won't hold my breath, though. I know how long it takes to do single-player scripting :)
