: And this is where we use the three magic words: "We
: don't know." :-)
WHAT! How dare you?!? I hear all, see all and KNOW ALL!;)
: There's nothing wrong with
: believing Creation's theory, but one should
: distinguish between a theory one happens to believe
: and an undisputable fact.
Your right about this of course. However there are very few indisputable facts relating to Myth's story. So in the end we end up makeing facts up ourselves to help the story along. I suppose I should have worded my post diffently.
: Has Bungie *ever* come onto a forum, or issued a press
: release, saying "3rd-party scenario X does not
: present accurate information on the world of
: Myth?" :-) They don't bother challenging
: 3rd-party stories because it's a given that they can't
: possibly define the Truth™. You don't see George
: Lucas, for instance, going to Star Wars fanfic sites
: and saying "No! This story is wrong! Luke and
: Chewbacca will NOT get married!" It's just not an
: issue. Fan-created stuff can point toward the truth,
: and it can turn out later that a 3rd-party story was
: actually correct, but you don't know that until
: someone from Bungie says so.
And as you just pointed out, companys rarely say weather or not fan stuff is right. So we may as well pick which ideas we think are correct and make the best of them.
: Otherwise, I can write a scenario that says that the
: Mythworld is actually Oz and nothing in the flavor
: texts or journals has any connection to the Mythworld
: because the writers were all stoned; Bungie's texts
: don't actually disprove this idea, so why shouldn't we
: accept it as fact?
Well I for one can see the connection bettwean Oz and Myths world. The dorfs would be cast as munchkins, Alric as Dorthy, and Balor could be the "very evil wicked witch of the East".
:Without the ability to discard
: non-Bungie-written texts, there's virtually no idea
: that we could conclusively prove or disprove. Creation
: says Leix is a prison colony, TMBM says (let's say)
: that Leix is an empire, and we have people believing
: one or the other as a solid Fact simply out of
: personal preference.
But in the end personal preference is what we use to deside what we beleave more often than not. I am not say you should not be diserning about what you beleave, or that you should discount a theory just because you dont like it; I'm just saying that ninety nine percent of the time we beleave what we like untill it is proven to be wrong, or we are beaten into submissin by our fellow inmates;)
:In which case there isn't much
: reason for the Asylum to exist, is there? Except to
: make up parody songs, of course.
The Asylem is a place to put up new ideas and theorys, kick them around some and deside what makes the most sence to you and then deside if you want to beleave it for the moment. If someone came here and offered a convinceing idea with some evidence that Leix was not in fact located on that island near Covenent, but was actuly a clan of renegade Northmen. Than some might deside to beleave that. It would not realy matter about the evidence, most of the theorys we have put forth here are based mostly on circemstansial evidence.
I dont know about anyone else, but I would be elated if some one here could infiltrate Take Two and "liberate" some clasified story matterial to clear up some of these questions=)
