In Response To: Re: That's what I thought... (Drunken Ghol)

: There is only one problem with that Silli. That is that
: there is not nearly enough officil Bungie matterial to
: fully flesh out the world; at least not matterial
: avalable to us.

And this is where we use the three magic words: "We don't know." :-) There's nothing wrong with believing Creation's theory, but one should distinguish between a theory one happens to believe and an undisputable fact.

: So I think it is perfectly alright to
: take Creations great story as fact untill Bungie or
: now Take Two say other wise.
: This is not to say that I agree with all the things
: Creation put in there. I remember arguing with Ares
: for weeks about the movments of the Watcher when he
: was kicking ideas around here for the maps. However
: since Bungie has not challenged the story, even when
: most of the people interested take Creation as just a
: good a source as Bungie then I assume they have no
: problems with the additions.

Has Bungie *ever* come onto a forum, or issued a press release, saying "3rd-party scenario X does not present accurate information on the world of Myth?" :-) They don't bother challenging 3rd-party stories because it's a given that they can't possibly define the Truth™. You don't see George Lucas, for instance, going to Star Wars fanfic sites and saying "No! This story is wrong! Luke and Chewbacca will NOT get married!" It's just not an issue. Fan-created stuff can point toward the truth, and it can turn out later that a 3rd-party story was actually correct, but you don't know that until someone from Bungie says so.

Otherwise, I can write a scenario that says that the Mythworld is actually Oz and nothing in the flavor texts or journals has any connection to the Mythworld because the writers were all stoned; Bungie's texts don't actually disprove this idea, so why shouldn't we accept it as fact? Without the ability to discard non-Bungie-written texts, there's virtually no idea that we could conclusively prove or disprove. Creation says Leix is a prison colony, TMBM says (let's say) that Leix is an empire, and we have people believing one or the other as a solid Fact simply out of personal preference. In which case there isn't much reason for the Asylum to exist, is there? Except to make up parody songs, of course.
