Remember that the west was mostly over run by that point, so their were probobly alot of morter shells taken off of dead dorfs. As for the sachals, well the last point should be conciderd and also you must remember that Stonheim was still held by the ghols.
As for SB's supply lines I doubt he worryed to much about that. By the time he got to Madrical I think most of his human troops were still in the south, and the rest of his forces were made up of undead and creatures that eat every thing or nothing at all. David is right about most of the dark army staying togeather, eximting scouts and shock troops that would be the smart thing to do.
