Historically, most armies travelled en masse and therefore moved at the rate of the slowest units (typically artillery). The fastest units, like cavalry and later motorized cavalry, usually had to crawl along until they actually got to the battlefield. The reasons for doing it this way were many: it meant you only had to keep one supply line for each segment of your army, it kept vulnerable units from being stranded, it kept your faster troops fresher (less provender/gas consumption if you move slow) and so on. An army full of creatures that don't need supply lines is an interesting logistics problem, but I still think that a smart Fallen Lord would keep all his troops together, with the exception of scouts and shock troops, of course. Hmm. Fetch as shock troops... oh, I'm so sorry, but it had to be said...
