: Could it perhaps he "Firey Steel" or
: "Burning Iron" or some such? As I understand
: it, Igne means Iron, not Sword, though it is often
: translated as steel and thus used as a symbol for the
: sword. (I only know about this because of the Ingue
: Ferroque fiasco).
Igne definitely means the noun "fire," not "fiery" or "burning." "Ferrum" does mean iron, but it's almost always used as a poetic synonym for "gladius," sword. This is such a common poetic phrase (alongside "he spake winged words") that I think it must be used in this sense.
: Hrm... perhaps one who boxes his opponents stupid?
: Probably reffers to their kickboxing skills.
Really? I figured the programmers decided to deflate the Trow's egos a tad, and everyone, even 20-foot-high rock monsters, worries about whether or not they have fat thighs.
: I would think "Bitter Hardship" to be the most
: likely.
: Or it could be a reference to their deft blows, wading
: into battle and just swatting things down.
Well, "blunt" and "dull" don't have much to do with deftness (in fact, they're almost opposite), but yes, it probably refers to their fighting style.
: Heheh... so this guy's name could mean, basically,
: "Stupid stick"? (as in, the stick with which
: you make one stupid).
Sure, although you have to get beat over the head with the stupid stick *before* you go up against a Trow.
: Hrm... perhaps Trow don't breed. Maybe they are all
: sculpted from stone and clay, perhaps all having
: survived since the Dawn of Time when Nyx made them,
: and this particular individual was made from tufa.
That might explain why the Trow weren't inclined to honor the ordinary rules of warfare, about sparing women and children alone, when they fought the Oghres; not comprehending the parent-child relationship, they didn't see why certain Oghres would be exempt from combat simply because they were smaller or weaker. Then, later, when they found out what it meant to other races, it contributed to their guilt. On the other hand, maybe Filius Tofus' dad's name was "Bartholomew," and he figured the more poetic way out was also the less embarassing one.

: Anyway, thanks for the data.
