...according to GURPS, there were *some* fairly small human cultures who had things like writing and calendars for a good-sized chunk of the Axe Age. One such culture, I'd suspect, would be the Welshish-Japaneseish-Mayanish culture which would give rise to the Cath Bruig and (probably) Tireces; another would be Yer-Ks (though that doomed kingdom wouldn't reach its peak until the late part of the Age of Reason).
