No, the cult is mentioned several times in TFL, as well as in its manual and in myth 2.

From what we can disern, the cult was a group of highly skilled artisens whos expertece embraced a wide range of subjects, including magic. Their skill was so great that in fact Connocht employed them to create an enchanted "prision with no walls" aka the Tain.

As for all of the speculation about Stoneheim being taken in an earlyer age...well I agree that it probobly happend. However the tone I get from all the evidence avalable is that the flaver is talking about the most resent fall, duing the Wolf age.
