: Why did the dwarves commit suicide by sealing the only
: entrance to Stoneheim after Myrgard fell?
My reasoning for this is that the dwarves did not want to have both thier cities fall inot the hands of thier blood enemies. Hwne the dwarves heard that Myrgard had fallen, they saw thier doom. If the ghol hordes had succeded in overcoming Myrgard's defenses, what would prevent the massed ghols outside of Stonehiem, now presumably thier ranks swelled from ghols finished with Myrgard from taking it's sister city as well? The dwarves could obviosly not let this happen, thier ancestral enemies owning both of thier citadels? Never! They would rather die. Thus, they collapsed the barbican over the only entrance to Stonehiem, sealing thier fate and never lettering the ghols violate thier sacred halls.
Your theory about the maul of dwarven kings is interesting, but I think it was more a question of protecting thier honor than some artifact
